Seymour Locks (1919-), sculptor. Born in Illinois; attended San Jose State College (BA) and Stanford University (MA 1946). His best known sculptures were funky totems made of wood into which were driven hundreds of nails, their heads overlapping to form bristling, armor-plated surfaces. In the 1970s he made mixed media tableaux of a mystical surrealistic cast. Locks began teaching at San Francisco State College in 1947. p. 294.
