CARNIFICO by Scot Gresham-Lancaster and Jay Cloidt 'Carnifico', from the Latin "to cut into small pieces".
This piece uses the Sym microcomputer to generate pulses which in turn allow the listener access to some predetermined source material.
Out in the audience area are footswitches which allow the listener(s) to change the control variables at will.
The source material is from a variety of sources including electronic media (digital and analog synthesis), pre-recorded speech material (presidential press conference; movie dialogue; etc.), pre-recorded ambient sound material (sound effects; soundscape recordings).
At all moments the aleatoric process of audience interaction is changing the content and density of the sound in this piece.

Videotapes will be played throughout the evening documenting a variety of musical or multimedia works by composer, David Rosenboom, in which compter assisted electronic systems play a role during live performance. These involve a variety of techniques ranging from algorithmic composition to acoustic instrument interface to extended musical interface with the human nervous system, involving direct application of electronical signals from the brain.
Most works shown were created during the period from 1976 to 1981.
