"Dimensional Tide, Vertical Neighborhood" (1982)

DTVN employs a sound generator that includes 3 microcomputers, 2 D/A convertors, and additional circuitry. The program for the system is designed to create generally long-enveloped events where various aspects of the sound (wave shape, modulation rates, pitch, etc.) change at the main envelope transition points.

Prior to a performance, tape material is built up by recording the system a number of times. As each track is recorded, the program actively listens to the pitch of the previous track and may choose to generate the same or a related pitch. All the tape tracks are linked in this way. In performance, the live system likewise can tune up to one of the tape channels.
