The Music Department includes the world-renowned Center for Contemporary Music. The Department's faculty includes composers John Bischoff, Chris Brown, Alvin Curran, Maggi Payne, and visiting composers Annea Lockwood and George Lewis; scholars David Bernstein, Annie J. Randall (visiting) and Michelle Fillion (on leave) and performers David Abel, Julie Steinberg, William Winant, Donna Petersen, Blanche Thebom, Eileen Hadidian, Goodwin Sammel, and Glenn Spearman.
