STOREFRONT BENEFIT FRIDAY MAY 10 AT THE LAB, 1805 DIVISADERO LIVE MUSIC: 23 SCREAMS MECHANICAL BRIDE MORALITY BANKRUPT GLORIOUS DIN

THE MECHANICAL BRIDE is the title of a 1951 book by Marshall McLuhan about the folklore of industrial man. THE MECHANICAL BRIDE is a band playing protest music, outrage against polite hypocrisy and the music industry which is the marketing agency on consumerism and the pacifier of live action.

We encourage real time performance instead of lip-synched T.V. commercials. Female energy (Jeorgia and Kate) leads the band, creating an example, not following or competing with markets. We disdain the control of MIDI, SMPTE, precision equipment-intensive technology that tries to eliminate human error, comedy, and expression; we try to loose control and may be the only band left with a real drummer (Trey Sabatelli) who actually hits real drums.

Sound hits the audience 360 degrees, props, costumes, and hyper-visual images combine to create our own surreal space. Anyone is welcome, anyone who dares to take the risk, to refuse to buy into things as they are. The Media is the Massacre, the bomb is nothing compared the annihilation of initiative and brainpower carried out daily by these tastemakers. Dare to experience THE MECHANICAL BRIDE.

23 SCREAMS is about noise, and having fun. We formed in SEPT 84 with ED, CHRIS and KEVIN as core members and guest appearances by any friends that happened to show. Since then, KALONICA has been absorbed into the group. Top 40 airplay is not our goal, but rather than stagnate in obscurity, we are nourishing a small but devoted following who by some miracle of objectivity, find pleasure in our creative offering.

Due to scant framework and a serious lack of studied music, what happens when we play is CATHARSIS. Cacophone, like mucous and neurosis, is our friend. Perhaps this is Serialism. A set of sounds repeated and layered.
