SILENT RECORDS

Welcome to Silent Records America's premier ambient record label. Silent began in 1986, when there was little outlet for ambient music to get to the public. As the ambient movement began to swell, fueled by the rave scene, Silent was there cresting the wave, bringing more and more styles of ambient to the people and helping to define ambient culture. Our releases run the gamut from ethereal cerebral sounds to brain hemi-sync tools to techno trance.

Heavenly Music Corporation

In an attempt to rekindle the psychedelic quality inherent in ambient music, the Heavenly Music Corporation has reinvented itself by creating a "tweaked" version of ambient music for their second full length CD. HMC isn't satisfied with the current narrow-band definitions of ambient music, and in line with the Silent Records philosophy, HMC wants to keep evolving ambient music.

[some selections] Flowers & Beads (Vocoded Transmission), Crystalline Entity, Sunfish = Sunflower.

Heavenly Music Corporation "...revels in undulating sounds and sheets of synth flowing over the brain." --Cream Magazine

"...Lushly sweeping, melodically tripping, softly flowing, and subtly uplifting ..." --Streetsound

Following the critically acclaimed "In A Garden in Eden", Heavenly Music Corporation returns with its second full length CD on Silent Records titled Consciousness III. HMC rekindles the psychedelic quality inherent in ambient music by stretching minimal ethereal soundscapes with a psychedelic rubberband, and in effect reshaping their crescent boundaries. By reinventing itself using more percussion and decisive beats, the music grows wings and soars beyond current narrow-band simplifications of ambient music. The 8 celestial tracks on Consciousness III explore an unusual fusion of ambient and intelligent techno brought together in lush layers of electronic texture, depicting a sonic depth and visual weight that tantalizes the listener's imagination. Drawing on many influences, including Iannis Xenakis, Brian Eno, John Cage, Sun Electric, Ken Ishii, and Aphex Twin, HMC creates a "tweaked" version of ambient music, forging a hybrid between ambient and intelligent techno.

The title of the release was taken from a book written by Charles Reich, "The Greening of America." Reich describes the next stage of spiritual evolution called Consciousness III, a state where a new generation must adopt nurturing and open systems in order to raise the consciousness of others. HMC opens the door to new states of being, creating an aural universe where psychedelic whispers and organic samples are sprinkled throughout the excursion, taking the mind's eye on a mental journey as though the tracks have been laced with a dose of psylocybin. But don't be afraid, its a trip you won't want to miss.

Silent Records founder Kim Cascone is the accomplished artist behind HMC, a project that stemmed from the darker industrial ambient intonations of his well known band PGR. Cascone's prodigious talent has launched numerous pioneering projects in addition to HMC, including Thessalonians, Spice Barons, Patternclear, and Satellite 4. Cascone received formal training in electronic music arrangement and composition at the Berklee School of Music in the early 1970's, and in 1976 studied with Dana McCurdy at the New School in Manhattan. In the late 1980's, after gaining experience as an audio technician, Cascone worked with David Lynch as Assistant Music Editor in both the syndicated television pilot Twin Peaks and the movie Wild At Heart. Cascone left the film industry in 1989 to concentrate on the label he had initiated in 1986.

Silent Records was born when Cascone released his project PGR, and since its inception, Cascone has careened the label towards the evolution and expansion of ambient music, making it the premier ambient label in the United States. Brilliance for a Better Future

The new Brilliance for a Better Future compilation is here to take back the term "Techno" with their own brand of intelligent techno. "Brilliance" is the third release on Silent's sublabel FLASK; it features electronic music artists out of the San Francisco area. The tracks on this compilation draw from many dance music genres including house, trance, acid, and hardcore. The result is a "brilliant" weave of styles and a very listenable CD.
