JULY 7 Sun SCRATCH, SAMPLE, AND SCREAM

Industrial-electro improv with roots in hard rock and new-music composition promises to scorch and rattle Great American's ornate bric-a-brac when Faith No More's Mike Patton, turntable and CD-player manipulator Otomo Yoshida, and composer and electronics maestro Bob Ostertag improvise endlessly tonight as House of Discipline. In contexts such as this, Patton tends to sit cross-legged on stage and screech poetry; Tokyo artist Yoshida -- a film-music composer, ally of John Zorn and Chris Cutler, and leader of the rock band Ground-Zero -- will back him up by scratching and spinning and by playing a panoply of homemade guitars. Ostertag, whose "All the Rage" is performed by Kronos Quartet, is among the best at using computers and samplers as performance instruments.

8 p.m., Great American Music Hall, 859 O'Farrell, S.F. $10. (415) 885-0750. (Derk Richardson)
