MUSIC OF MY MIND: Berkeley-based entrepreneur Jonathan Purcell has developed a hardware/software system that turns brainwaves and biosignals into music. Purcell's WaveRider and WaveWare technology weds biological data acquisition to the mapping of notes and scales on a variety of MIDI-compatible instruments. He envisions the system enabling musicians to compose and perform musical works based on their bodies and minds. "Lone artists can do a lot of tripping out on their individual music," says Purcell. "But we're really interested in groups of people hooking themselves up, running their biosignals through a mixing board and coming up with a collective-consciousness jam-session."
