HONOR THY TROY CURLS, GATES OF AARON CAROLINER RAINBOW BENZA MATES at the Aquarius Club, Dannville, CA November, 1985

Honor Thy Troy Curls opened up with a showing of a film of someone who looked very tortured from getting lots of hair dumped on him. The band started playing towards the facial expression shots. There was only one piano player this night who had a wig boomerang that would be thrown at a slant and come back to his head. I caught some of their lyrics: "Verlid, Vellis, and popcorn colonel peaceful world thru rust and mail, Honor Thy Troy Curls!" Nobody seemed to like the singing much, but I did.

Gates of Aaron were a 4 piece band but the bassist (who wore the bass) played the guitar while the guitarist (who was wearing a guitar) played the drums and the drummer hit the bass (and sometimes the bassist) with his sticks. The singer sang in Yiddish and used sign language a lot too. There was a cover song of Stravinsky's Devil's Dance during which the singer bugged his eyes and smoked. (These guys just played LA).

Caroliner played with cowboy hats, a black light, and in their socks were what looked like they were filled with tomatoes (or something red and puffy). Some of the songs were knocked out by a hammer instead of drums and the most graphic song they did was "Mud Cup Monocle" where a band member quit playing guitar and shook out a shirt full of manure and waved bright fluorescent flowers that had little booger ghosts on top of them, the song (and their show) ended with a trumpet solo and the hit "Dirt Binge" as well as a speech about a Gasoline Opossum named Knuck Knuck. The show might have gone on for another half hour but cops came in yelling that an under 21 club could not have nude dancers and love acts or some shit. -Stringut
