CLUB FOOT ORCHESTRA
Metropolis
"...from allusions to Stravinsky to the imperatives of West African folk idioms, taking into account swing jazz, rock, blues, and modernist atonality. A powerful and compelling sound develops from the band, comprised of brass, woodwinds, a violin, guitars, and percussion." -- San Francisco Chronicle
After years of playing nightclubs, the Club Foot Orchestra premiered their original live soundtrack to Robert Weine's silent film classic The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari at the Mill Valley Film Festival in October 1987. The success of this experiment prompted them to follow with F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu in March 1989. The scores for Fritz Lang's and Peter McCandless's Pool of Thanatos contained on the Metropolis live album premiered at the Castro Theatre on April 16, 1991.
Fritz Lang's classic 1926 film Metropolis portrays a technological future where workers toil with mind-numbing devotion to their machinery while the privileged few pursue their pleasures in palaces built in the sky. The first eighteen selections of this recording are correctly sequenced to accompany the video of the colourized full-length Gorgio Moroder print.
