I saw a movie Sunday night at the San Francisco Film Festival called "Sonic Outlaws." It concerns issues surrounding sampling and appropriating sounds for new music pieces. There is a long interview in it with Negativland, and a tape of the interview with Mondo 2000 where a member of Negativland asks a member of U2 what the difference between the "U2" single by Negativland and the use of various video signals on the recent U2 tour is. Also featured is EBN, who did work for U2 on that tour. All in all, it was a lot of fun - go see it.
Best quote in movie - by Negativland member: "We thought that since the U2 was a spy plane, and it was going where it wasn't supposed to, that it was appropriate. We failed to think that the U2 was shot down and crashed."
