3. DIE WALPUGISNACHT "LIEBESTOD" (4'10")
Liebestod means love-death, death-in-Love, Love-in-death, or love satisfied and consummated only by death.
4. MASHINENRAUM "NEW PRIMITIVE" (3'33")
This major group includes establishments engaged in manufacturing, famous for pioneering the "four-digit" method. Therefore, if four-digit codes were assigned previously, reclassification would not be necessary to provide comparable historical data for this industry group. When the classification is limited to less than four-digit detail, consideration should be given to possible expansion of the industry data needs, as well as to editing and special analysis needs of certain data series for which more detail would be helpful. All material recorded live.

8. START "TELL ME OF WAR" (3'00")
Start is interested in the musical qualities in our environment. These include the sounds of machinery, traffic, the partially overheard conversations of passersbys, domestic animals, recorded voices of Pacific Bell employees etc. However, we are primarily interested in the unintentional musical elements encountered in the broadcast media -- religious programs, news, nature shows, commercials, old movies and particularly call-in talk shows.
We use pause edits, tape loops and follow mixes in an attempt to draw out the rhythmic and melodic qualities in the voices. These and other techniques are also used to expose and develop the social and political subjects addressed by the speaker.
These same techniques by producing staccato repetitions draw attention to the character of the speakers. These pauses, hesitations, half laughs and false starts between words are often far more revealing (in the case of call-in talk shows often poignantly so) than the speakers statements on the obstensable subject matter.
Wherever we listen we find humor in the mass culture absurdity and slapstick are ubiquitous in spite of the fact that the intended effect is most often melodrama. Thus the contradictions are manifest. We hope you find the dialectics of schlock as entertaining as we do.

1. NATIONAL DISGRACE "CREATION OF THE WORLD" (2'51")
our approach to music is the use of trash objects and junk machinery in new ways.
all our music is improvised, using random elements of the moment. we draw from a common background of years of AM radio and TV noise, American folk, blues, and ethnic percussion.
we found a five gallon restaurant fat can labelled in chinese. the only english on it was the word "Chef" we carved it up a bit, making a drum. we got another, labelled "Griddle fry" and made a guitar out of it.
when you melt or carve up records, you get a generic riff that defines that music. the riff is often good -- you can immediately see the rhythm potential.
the sounds in "Creation of the World" are: melted record, carved 45 record played at 78 rpm, electric percussion machine (whapper) on galvanized siding, and rainstorm outside.

2. DEVIATION SOCIAL "SHE WANTS TO BE NEAR MANSON" (2'47")
Deviation Social is a multimedia guerilla organization; the name is intentionally self-explanatory. Researching and presenting examples of extreme deviant individuality continues to be our primary activity. DS has existed as an attempt to viciously attack the facade of normalcy. Our work is a genuine product and expression of our very lifestyle.
We have been operating since May/1981, and throughout this space of time have released various works in the form of collages, booklets, cassettes, vinyl, screen printing, and (presently) film. DS in NOT a 'music' group. We view the current scene (with a few exceptions) from the standpoint of a creative/political movement as impotent. Our validity shall be judged only by time.
"She Wants to be Near Manson" is an audio/visual collage with both parts being of equal importance for an accurate interpretation. This work is based on a newspaper story that appeared in the latter part of April, where Sandra Good (one of the Manson people) refused to be paroled from prison because authorities would not allow her to return to California.
This immediately struck us as an interesting love story (Good has had a baby by Manson) -- truly deviant even (& particularly) in its extremity -- and we set to work on an appropriate visual report.
Following the invitation by John Gullak to participate on this compilation, we decided to produce a soundtrack to accompany the collage (which was executed in April). The soundtrack was prepared using only a bare minimum of equipment and recorded on the three operational tracks of our ailing Teac deck.
All instruments (tales, rhythm machine, xylochime, and kalimba) by DS, vocals by DS & Sharee.

3. BARRYDALIVE "PHALLUS IN WONDERLAND" (5'5")
BarryDalive was born out of the magnetic tape wasteland that dwells in the back of every vinyl fiend's mind. Starting age 10 with an Xmas present of a small rinky-tink portable tape deck, eventually upgrading equipment, perverting sound and voice leading to near court battles, death threats, police interrogation, normal phone privileges suspended, distrust of friends to engage in normal conversation for fear of recording devices and most likely an FBI file, all for the sake of art thru noise.
From bomb threats to throat slashings, the tapes reflect history in the making. Any tape swapping or recording projects for public consumption wishing contributions can write

6. THE GERMAN SHEPHERDS "LOVE ME" (3'05")
The German Shepherds, formed by Sandy Stark and Stephen Scheatzle in Nov. 1981, released a three song ep in early "82 with "Booty Jones" -- to child molester and kidnapper Kenneth Parnell; "I Adore You" -- an offering of prayer and submission and "Message from JJ" -- a rousing sermon by Peoples Temple chief Rev. Jim Jones.
Later that year a dub version of "I Adore You" and "The Earthquake Has Come" appeared on the "You'll Hate This Record, Record" compilation lp. In 1983 the Shepherds began work on their first lp and in early '84 released "THC" and "Quit It" -- a promotional single from those sessions.
Sandy Stark was arrested in June of '84 on trumped up child molestation charges and committed suicide while awaiting trial. Shattered by Stark's death, Scheatzle enlisted German Shepherd producer M. Huthinson to replace Stark and work began anew on the lp project. "Music For Sick Queers" is the long awaited result, which "Love Me" was selected from.

8. KRISTINE AMBROSIA/AMBROSIA TRANSPERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS/KAGE TAIYO "SPINNING SIGIL" (7'12")
Recorded March, 1985 at the Studio of ATC in Berkeley during a ritual/performance art piece entitled "spinning sigil" -- part of a long series of explorations into shamanic/oracular states of awareness. Growing out of a piercing/scarification ritual for Sonia Blumgarten and Boyd Rice, the work included: Kristine Ambrosia: artist, performer, vocals, director; Karl Konnerth: computers, trumpet; Rick Reneau: guitar, stage set; Tim O'Neill: synthesizer, percussion, vocals; Fakir Musatar(?jh): performer; Monty Cazazza: performer.
The essence of Kristine's work is the entrance into altered states of awareness for the purpose of communication with the archetypal unconscious. As an outgrowth of her own Shamanic initiation in 1975, it parallels surrealist automatism, the German Body Artists, Art Brut and the New Primitives while remaining in essence her own direct experience apart from intellectual systems. A pre-literate approach to art in the service of actual ritual.
