FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. (New Music, Concerts, or Performance) TWO BAY AREA NEW MUSIC GROUPS JOIN FORCES FOR PERFORMANCE.

Members of the League of Automatic Music Composers and of the live electronic music group, the Rotary Club, would like to announce a debut performance of their collaborative group the Rota-League on Sat. Sept. 25, 1982 at 9:00 pm at the Ed Mock Studio, 32 Page Street, in San Francisco. Admission will be $4.00. Wine will be served at a nominal cost.

This unique group employs a battery of instruments which includes synthesizers, lap steel guitar, computer-controlled electronics, rhythm generator, processed sound effects tapes, and plastic castanets from the Republic of China.

This performance represents a merger of widely different approaches to New Music performance, and will incorporate high-tech microcomputer technology, a vocalist, random switching techniques inspired by John Cage, and pop music elements.

One planned piece will include an experimental use of computer text generation, combined with vocal improvisation; new approaches to improvised music will be the keynote of the evening.

The League of Automatic Music Composers, consisting of John Bischoff, Jim Horton, and Tim Perkis, is well-known in New Music circles in the Bay Area for the live, real-time performances of their interactive computer network band. This group, rumored to be the first of its kind, first received popular attention at the New Music America '81 Festival in San Francisco.

The Rotary Club, a live improvising electronic music band dedicated to low-tech "guerilla electronics", took its name from the Rotary Multiplexer, an arcane switching device used in early performances. The Club, consisting of Barbara Golden, Sam Ashley, Ben Azarm, MEAL and Jay Cloidt, combines taped music, homemade and inexpensive electronic devices, live vocals, synthesizers, and elements form pop music in a unique collage framework.
