NEW MUSIC at NewLangtonArts GUITARIST MARK TRAYLE, FRIDAY FEBRUARY 24 1989

"My work weaves the grit and noise of rock 'n roll into the procedural fabric of computer music technology. Specialized circuitry links the live performer to a network of do-it-yourself electronics and microcomputers. This ad hoc system beats on guitars, strikes cowbells and makes raunchy electronic sounds. Composing becomes the process of defining (divining) relations within the network, providing flexible musical structure that are responsive to the performance environment."

MOTOR TOMEMIST GUILD, SATURDAY FEBRUARY 25

MTG performs and records original compositions by James Grigsby which combine acoustic and electric means of sound production in an interplay of rhythm, texture and melody that ranges from coy to explosive. In addition to traditionally notated structures, the music incorporates improvisations by all members. In this way MTG can explore the area between interpretation and improvisation.

COMPOSER/PERFORMER BRIAN REINBOLT, FRIDAY MARCH 10

Brian Reinbolt is a composer whose work utilizes a variety of strategies, including a computer music system that uses input from a number of sensing devices to make decisions about musical content and form. These sensors are manipulated by the performer in concert, producing a large array of audio phenomena.
