Among the pieces commissioned by Kronos Quartet for its 1995-96 home season is Island: The Immigrant Suite No. 2, by composer, pianist, and band leader Jon Jang, who was inspired by the wall writings left by Chinese immigrants detained at Angel Island. Also on the bill are pieces by Joseph Julian Gonzalez (accompanied on paintbrush by L.A.-based artist Gronk), Mo Wuping, Judith Shatin, and Evan Ziporyn.
